More info: Pompano Beach Fishing Pier is 896 feet long and has recently been upgraded in the city’s latest development project and offers wide fishing platforms, sheded areas and great fishing opportunities for both seasoned anglers and beginners.
The rocky bottom below the structure of the pier is good for snapper fishing, whilst mutton snapper are found off the end of the Pier. Mackerel and Bluefish are more to the middle of the pier. The float rig for Mackerel is popular at this pier. Another common catch is pompano, which is the fish the beach is named after.
Snook lay up and under the length of thPompano Fishing Pier at night. A technique known as 'walking the dog' is used to catch them. A Live Shrimp is used on a 1/0 circle hook attached to a 40in leader, with a small swivel and a barrel eggg sinker on the main line. It is just enough weight to hold a steady level as you walk slowly up and down the pier. Start from the bottom up, go up and down the pier working different depths, as they feed at different depths at different times.
