More info: Blue House Farm Nature Reserve in North Famborough, is a perfect place for owls with the coastal grazing marsh providing a good supply of voles and other prey. Most years, two or three pairs of barn owls nest on the reserve in a barn close to the reserve entrance which has been a favoured breeding site for many years.

Barn owls build their nests in hollow trees, cliff cavities, in buildings, and nest boxes. They do not build a true nest, but much of the debris around the nest is formed into a depression. The female lays 2 to 11 eggs with 5 being more usual and incubates lasts for 29 to 34 days. The female carries out all the incubation, and she and the young chicks are reliant on the male for food. Hatching takes place over a prolonged period, and the youngest chick may be several weeks younger than its oldest sibling.
