More info: The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is a mountain massif separated from the Andes and rising from the Caribbean coast to the highest peak in Colombia at 19,000 feet (5775 m).

A total of 635 bird species have been recorded in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, which aconts for an impressive 35% of the avifauna of Colombia.

Some well-known endemic bird species in Colombia include the Santa Marta parakeet, the gold-ringed tanager, the yellow-eared parrot and the multicolored tanager.
