More info: The adult female great black backed gull usually lays three eggs in a period of around a week, She does not start to incubate until all three eggs are laid. Because of this, all three chicks hatch on the same day and generally all the chicks are raised successfully.
Great black backed gull eggs are greenish-brown with dark speckles and blotches. Both parents incubate the eggs which lasts for a period of approximately 28 days. During this time, the birds attempt to avoid being noticed and stay silent.
RSPB Leighton Moss is located near the village of Silverdale in Lancashire.
