More info: Abernethy Forest is an ancient Caledonian Pine Forest which lies within the Cairngorms National Park, close to the villages of Nethy Bridge, Boat of Garten, and Aviemore. Abernethy National Nature Reserve is home to some of Scotland's most spectacular wildlife.

The goshawk is about the size of a buzzard. It has a fierce expression with bright orange eyes and a distinctive white eyebrow. The broad wings and long tail enable the goshawk to hunt at high speed, weaving in and out of trees, and its long legs and talons are able to catch its prey in flight.

Goshawks will return to the same nesting area each year where they will build a new nest, or alternatively refurbish and re-use an old nest.
