Spain has the largest breeding population of Lesser Kestrels in the Mediterranean region. The lesser kestrel breeds from the Mediterranean across Afghanistan and Central Asia, to China and Mongolia.

The lesser kestrel diet consists of insects, but also small birds, reptiles and rodents (especially mice) which are often taken on the ground.

The lesser kestrel nests colonially on buildings, cliffs, or in tree holes. Females lay between 3 to 6 eggs, in April-May, both the female and male incubate the eggs for 28-30 days.
