More info: The little owl is present throughout Hungary, especially east of the river Danube. The core population inhabits the Hungarian Plain, although breeding pairs can be found in hilly parts of the country, in smaller density. Typical nesting sites of the little owl are the lofts of farm-houses and barns.
Efforts focusing on the conservation of the little owl involve the maintenance of sufficient feeding grounds and providing suitable nesting habitats. The little owl does not build its own nest. The shortage in suitable nesting places is a common threatening factor for many species nesting in tree cavities.
