More info: Ospreys passed by Kielder for many years, heading for their more established nesting sights in Scotland. As those nesting sites and territories were taken, it was just a matter of time before the ospreys stayed south of the border.
Forestry Engalnd built a number of nest platforms around Kilder Forest and after an absence of about 200 years in Northumberland, ospreys returned to nest successfully at Kielder in 2009.
