More info: Alyth lies 61 miles (98 kilometres) north of Edinburgh. The town straddles the burn which bears its name, at the point where the burn descends from the Perthshire Highlands to the lowland Vale of Strathmore.
Ospreys have nested at the site at Alyth for many years. A specially constructed 25-metre osprey nesting tower and two nearby 8.5 metre resting perches were erected in 2014. Prior to that, the ospreys were nesting on a nearby electricity tower. The setup is powered by solar panels and is live-streamed by 4G using the sun’s energy to power infra-red cameras.
Since that first breeding season in 2014, a total of 14 osprey chicks have been observed to have fledged from the new site.
Ospreys are migratory and they will head to West Africa in early September before returning to the UK in early April.
