More info: This waterhole is located on an open plain of red desert sand, located 8kms from Namib Desert Lodge.

Ostriches are found throughout the drier parts of Namibia, especially the northern areas of the Namib Desert.

Ostriches eat small succulent plants and grasses, roots and leaves as well as selected flowers and seeds. Flowers and pods of Acacia trees are a favourite. Ostriches are well adapted to the dry conditions of Namibia and may go for long periods without water.

Ostriches can run up to 40 mph and can outpace most predators. Their main predator is the leopard, whilst jackals, hyenas and martial eagles prey on the young.
