More info: The Urdaibai Bird Center which was once a canning factory is now a state of the art museum and observation point from which visitors can view both resident and visiting birds.

Birds of northern Europe fly south to overwinter at Urdaibai. At this time of year you will find waterfowl including mallard, teal, northern shoveler, northern pintail and the rare great bittern. Spring sees birds fly north from Africa for the breeding season and Urdaibai sees the arrival of spoonbills, osprey, black kite, hobby and marsh harrier, waders, swallows, martins and swifts. Some birds like the coot and little grebe are resident all year. Autumn sees some birds flying south again to spend winter in Africa.
