More info: The semi-outdoor flight area for the fruit bats, is enclosed inside a large bay which has security bars and zoomesh which protects the bats from predators and insects whilst allowing the bats to enjoy the night time sounds and fresh air in complete safety. Several skylights above the flight area allow natural light inside. During the winter months the area is heated so the bats can enjoy this space year-round.

There is a salad bucket, a mango net and other fruits strung on to the hanging rope for the bats to enjoy feeding on. The fruit bats usually become active about 7 to 8pm CST during the summer and 6 to 7pm during the winter.

The fruit bats at Bat World Sanctuary have been rescued from the exotic pet trade, research, and retired from zoos. Many of these bats have had terrible lives before finding sanctuary at Bat World.

Bats are highly social, gregarious individuals who thrive in the company of their own kind. They require large open areas in which to fly, and a carefully balanced, nutritionally sound diet to maintain good health.
