Foxes thrive best in habitats where there is a mixture of scrub, woodland, grassland and arable land offering a wide variety of food,
Although classified as a carnivore, foxes will readily eat a wide variety of foods including fruit and vegetable matter. Foxes prey on a variety of wild mammals, birds, insects and other invertebrates such as earthworms. Foxes will scavenge almost anything edible - animal or vegetable. It is partly due to this ability to exploit a wide variety of different foods that foxes are common and found throughout Britain. Foxes will cache food that cannot be eaten immediately, especially when it is a preferred food and in abundance.
