More info: Harbour Seals are members of the Phocidae family and are one of the true seal species found off the coast of Victoria. True seals have pin holes in the sides of their heads for ears with no external ear flaps. They also have fur covering their flippers. Harbour seals are the smallest and most common seal species.

Harbour seals are found at various haul-out (rocky outcrops) sites around the Victoria area. Pups are born from mid July to mid September with around 10,000 born around Victoria each year.

The diet of the harbour seal consists mainly of fish, shellfish, and crustaceans. Harbour seals complete both shallow and deep dives while hunting, depending on the availability of prey. They can sleep underwater and come up for air once every 30 minutes.
