More Info: Ongava Game Reserve is an exclusive 68,000 acre private game reserve situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park.

Ongava Game Reserve was formed in 1991 on what was previously unproductive land. The Reserve is now home to numerous game species including lions, leopards, cheetah, black and white rhinos, elephants, giraffe, and several stunning species of antelope, including rare black-faced impala.

The reserve has seen such healthy stability in the balck and white rhino populations that it is currently working to reintroduce several rhinos to other parts of the country where the rhinos have declined in number or become nonexistent.

A highlight at Ongava is that it is one of the few private game reserves in southern Africa where there is a chance of seeing both black and white rhino. For those who enjoy close wildlife encounters, tracking white rhino on foot with a guide is an experience not to be missed.

Birdwatching on the Ongava Reserve includes a number of endemic (or near endemic) species found there, such as the bare-cheeked babbler, violet wood-hoopoe, Carp's tit and Monteiro’s hornbill. Large flocks of guineafowl can also be seen in the savannah bushland.
