More info: The Donkey Sanctuary is a UK based charity that funds and facilitates non-invasive research with the aim of improving donkey and mule health and welfare. The Donkey Sanctuary was founded in 1969 by Elisabeth Svendsen.

The Donkey Sanctuary has been running for over 50 years and has six sanctuaries, open to the public, across the UK which are home to over 7,000 donkeys. The organisation also has seven closed farms that provide a refuge for rescued donkeys as well as offering professional training for prospective Donkey Guardians, staff, volunteers and donkey handlers.
