More info: Prairie rattlesnakes are found throughout the midwestern United States and extend from southwest Canada to the northwest part of Mexico.

Rattlesnakes are venomous snakes which live in many places and habitats, from mountains to deserts and plains. From the moment they hatch, rattlesnakes contain poisonous venom. Their bites can be very dangerous and sometimes deadly.

The rattle is found at the tip of the rattlesnake’s tail and it is creatd when hollow and bony doughnutlike segments in the rattle bang together.

The triangular head of the rattlesnake has a hollow spot between the eyes and nostrils called a pit. This pit is actually a sensory organ that helps the rattlesnake hunt in darkness by detecting body heat.
