More info: Meerkats are omnivores, consuming both plant and animal matter. Their diet consists mostly of insects and they are experts at killing Scorpions. Unlike humans, they have no excess body fat stores and therefore have to forage for food constantly in the daytime.
Although they live in very dry arid areas, meerkats obtain all the moisture they need from their diet and do not have to take on extra water.
Meerkats have exceptional vision and are able to spot birds of prey miles away on the horizon. The dark patches around their eyes cut down glare from the sun and help them see far into the distance and Long, horizontal pupils give them a wide range of vision without having to turn their head. They have a membrane which protects their eyes whilst they are digging to forage for food or make burrows.
