Info: Red pandas are found in the foothills of the southern Himalayas, from India to China and as far south as Myanmar. In China, red pandas are found mainly in the southwestern provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan, as well as Tibet. They have been found as far east as Shaanxi Province.

Red pandas prefer moderate climates where temperatures rarely go above 25°C (77°F) and altitudes between 2,000 and 4,000 meters (7,000–13,000 feet).

Red pandas are technically carnivores, however, they rarely consume meat, eating mostly bamboo. Whilst they have gained adaptations to help them manage their preferred diet, they still have a carnivore’s digestive system and because of this, they must eat 20-30% of their body weight in bamboo each day to produce enough energy. Red pandas will spend around 10 t0 12 hours a day grazing and foraging.

Red pandas are not as abundant as they used to be and the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) has placed them on the red list as being vulnerable to extinction as the number in the wild is decreasing.
