More info: Pied tamarins are the most endangered of the three sub-species of bare-faced tamarins. They are native to a small forested area of Brazilian Amazon Rainforest. They forage through the middle layer of the canopy for fruits and insects and play an important role in the spreading of tropical seeds which pass through their digestive system.
Pied tamarins live in groups of four to 15 individuals. Only the dominant female will breed and will commonly give birth to twins. The care of infants is shared throughout the group, with the father doing most of the carrying.
